RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees has elected new leadership for 2020.
They elected Malena Raymond to serve as president of the Board for 2020. Trustee Dr. Angie Taylor elected to serve as vice president, and Trustee Andrew Caudill to serve as clerk.
“I am honored that the Board of Trustees has elected me to serve as president for what is going to be an exciting but very critical year for the Washoe County School District,” said President Raymond.
President Malena Raymond represents District D for the Board of Trustees and is currently employed by the Domestic Violence Resource Center, where she provides crucial support for families who are experiencing family violence. She currently serves on the Nevada Department of Education's Advisory Council on Family Engagement where she works with other members to promote and advance engagement for families of students across the state.
She has worked in the nonprofit field for close to 20 years and has served on numerous community boards.
“The strong partnership between the Board of Trustees and District staff has enabled us to achieve so much, and I look forward to seeing what all of us accomplish together," said WCSD Interim Superintendent Dr. Kristen McNeill.
The District will open two new schools in August and is currently conducting a nationwide search for a new superintendent of schools.
