Street in Sparks reopens after fleeing driver hits power pole

SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO)-- A driver fled the Reno Police Department into the Sparks industrial area and hit a power pole Sunday, closing 21st Street from Glendale Avenue to Freeport Boulevard.

The crash happened about 2:55 p.m. December 2, 2018, and the street was reopened less than three hours later.

RPD Lt. Bill Rulla said a Reno Police officer tried to stop a white Jeep Cherokee about 2:50 p.m. in the area of East Second Street and Interstate 580, near the Grand Sierra. The driver took off and police did not pursue, for safety reasons.

In the area of 21st Street and Glendale Avenue, the driver hit a power pole and left the area. Police said they are not looking for the driver.
