WELLS, Nev. (KOLO)-- There was a fight Saturday at a Nevada Department of Corrections honor camp near Wells in northeast Nevada, the Elko County Sheriff’s Office reported Sunday. It was reported to the sheriff’s office as a riot.

The camp was about 15 miles east of Wells. Authorities arrived to find that three to six inmates had fought. Law enforcement detained the inmates and those with minor injuries were treated at the camp, the sheriff’s office said. One inmate was taken to Ely State Prison for treatment.

Also responding were the Nevada Highway patrol, the Elko Police Department, the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the Nevada Department of Prisons.

NDOC prison spokesman Scott Kelley said what happened cannot be called a riot.

“There was a fight involving five inmates that caused injuries to one,” Kelley said in a statement. “No inmates escaped during the fight. NDOC staff at the camp requested back up from local law enforcement, which helped bring the situation back under control.”
