Two arrested in Douglas County attack that went viral on Facebook

MINDEN, Nev. (KOLO) - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said two juveniles were arrested after a Tuesday incident in the Gardnerville Ranchos in which one juvenile was recorded beating a third juvenile.

The attack was captured on video that went viral on Facebook. The woman who posted it said in the post it was her 16-year-old sister who was being attacked.

The sheriff’s office said deputies were sent to the Wagon Drive area Tuesday, September 3, 2019 about 3:15 p.m. and found one person there with obvious injuries.

The deputies investigated the incident and the sheriff’s office said all involved were juveniles.

“After a thorough investigation, two juveniles were arrested for the battery, affray, and destruction of property,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement on Saturday.

Because the matter involved juveniles, no names were released. The Facebook post is embedded below. WARNING: The violence is extreme.

The press release ended with this:

“We can assure you the safety of our children in Douglas County and at Douglas County Schools is something we take very seriously and this incident is currently under further investigation at this time. We are aware of the video footage of this incident circulating on social media and we ask that you allow the Sheriff’s Office time to continue to work through the investigation. Due to the fact that most if not all players in this case are juveniles, we cannot release any more information at this time, but we are confident the work done by our deputies involving this investigation was done with the up most integrity. We will continue to work in collaboration with the school district and we will provide more information as it becomes available.”
