SPARKS, NV (KOLO) - Sparks Police have arrested two people for a variety of charges after they tried to get away from officers.

The incident began early the morning of May 31, 2019, when Sparks officers found a vehicle with a fake license plate in the parking lot of a closed business. Three people were in the vehicle, and a check of their identification revealed one of them was wanted by another police agency. When officers tried to get that person out, the driver sped off and police were not able to find the vehicle again during an immediate search.

About 9PM June 6, different SPD officers found the vehicle, still with the fake plate. Police say before they could turn on their emergency lights to pull the driver over, the driver drove off, leading to a short pursuit that ended in a cul de sac. Officers ordered the occupants out, at which time the driver drove over a curb in an apparent attempt to get away, but that stopped the vehicle.

The two people in the vehicle got out and ran, but were quickly caught and arrested. They were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the foot chase, then booked into the Washoe County jail.

31-year-old Joseph Doremus is charged with resisting a public officer and several counts of burglary and larceny. 26-year-old Jessica Cummings is charged with bring a driver disobeying a peace officer, resisting a public officer, driving with a suspended license and contempt of court.

Police say during the chase, no damage or injuries were sustained to any public or private property, police officers or their vehicles.

Police have not released information about the status of the third person in the vehicle during the first incident.
