New traffic controls in Golden Valley will go in effect today, October 21, 2019 on North Hills Boulevard.
The one-way traffic on North Hills Blvd. between Buck Dr. and Beckwourth Dr. will be switched from southbound only to northbound only. The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County says it is anticipated to improve traffic circulation and keep from directing heavy traffic, including school traffic, to the Golden Valley Road and North Hills Blvd intersection.
RTC says the change is to alleviate traffic concerns. The section of North Hills Blvd. is expected to reopen to two-way traffic in three weeks.
To help improve traffic flow, Lauren Ball with RTC says the City of Reno has installed vehicle-detection equipment at the Golden Valley Rd. and North Hills Blvd. intersection that will allow them to monitor and adjust the signal to improve traffic flow.
Also, RTC says the lane closures on Golden Valley Rd. will be minimized as much as possible and the contractor will schedule operations to avoid working at the intersection as school is letting out in the afternoon.
There will be two-way traffic between Golden Valley Rd. and Beckwourth Dr. and flagger will be on site during construction hours.
