RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Sierra Avalanche Center reports there was an avalanche Thursday morning in the Hourglass Bowl area of Mount Rose. It happened about 9AM November 16, 2017.

Two people, earlier reported to be three, were partially buried, the center reported. It was 100 feet wide and went 600 feet and was on old snow.

The report included this information from a Facebook post:

"I spoke with one of the party of 4 or 5 that were involved in the slide on my skin up. Three people (I believe) were caught in it, two of which were slammed into trees/rocks but were ok. Another skier with a possible broken ankle. A couple lost skis as well.”

Hourglass Bowl is not part of the Mount Rose Ski Tahoe resort. It is backcountry, although it is close enough to the Mount Rose Highway some skiers call it slack country.
