CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - Carson City Sheriff’s detectives have linked a series of crimes that began November 18, 2018 in the Goni Canyon area of north Carson City.
Detectives say the case began when Dillon Grimes of Sparks reported he had been robbed and beaten in the canyon area during the early morning hours of the 18th by two people. Carson City Sheriff’s detectives, working with other local and federal agencies, investigated the robbery and obtained evidence indicating Grimes had been selling stolen guns during the incident in Goni Canyon. When that didn't go as planned, Grimes was battered, and the weapons were taken by his attackers. Detectives say Grimes had stolen all the guns from vehicles in the Sparks area.
Detectives say Grimes admitted to selling stolen guns, saying Michael Segna and Mauricio Gomez of Carson City had attacked him, then taken the guns.
Segna and Gomez have since been arrested in Carson City and charged with Felony Battery with a Deadly Weapon. Bail is set at $50,000 for each.
Detectives say Grimes was already a suspect in more than 20 vehicle burglaries in Carson City during Thanksgiving week. All the burglaries took place in the downtown area of 7th, 8th, Nevada, and Curry Streets. No substantial losses were reported, though several vehicles were damaged during forced entry.
Grimes is in custody in the Washoe County jail on numerous charges, including burglary, possession of stolen property, prohibited person in possession of a gun, and unauthorized use of credit card. Charges connected to the Carson City incidents are forthcoming.
