RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Great Reno Balloon Race returns to the biggest little city Friday. The event will take place at Rancho San Rafael Park.

The event will now start with Dawn Patrol first thing every morning. Executive Director of GRBR Pete Copeland said, “The fans have been looking for Dawn on Friday for some time, and now we can finally deliver that.”

Attendees can see new shapes in the sky including Simba from the Lion King, Billy the Kid, Jack the Pirate and more.

On Sunday officials encourage attendees to wear green and blue in support of Donor Awareness Day. Copeland said, “We just want to bring awareness to how you can affect other lives by being an organ giver.”

Families said they look forward to this event every year. Danielle Ming said, “We were able to win some tickets, to go on a balloon ride, so it actually means a lot more than anything.”

Ming added, “And it’s local so it’s pretty cool that we can do this for our family and everything.”

The event runs through Sunday.
