"I have been waiting all year," said Letisha Gonzales, swimmer.

"I like swimming and it's my favorite hobby to do," said Marco Padilla, swimmer.

June 9, 2017 marked the opening day for the Sun Valley pool. Several kids took advantage of the opportunity as they swam with their friends.

"My favorite part is getting to see my old classmates from my old school that I had to leave," said

On the first day, the staff extended the pool hours until 7 pm. The turnout was down for opening day, but signups for swimming lessons were up.

"Typically this time of year, we don't have very many signups. Our binders are booking quickly," said Brandon Lacow, Sun Valley Pool Aquatic Supervisor.

With Traner and Northeast pools closed this season due to repairs and construction, Sun Valley staffers believe they may be able to attract those swimmers.

"It's always nice to see new faces and be able to have other people experience what we experience with this pool," said Araya Streitler, Sun Valley Pool lifeguard.

There were many lifeguards on standby, but the message is simple.

"It just hope they have a good time and enjoy the experience here. This is a one-of-a-kind pool. We have strict rules, but we expect everyone to have a good time and leave with a smile on their face," said Monserat Reyes, Sun Valley Pool lifeguard.

The pool was planning on hosting a ‘Movie in the Park,’ Friday night, but that was canceled due to high winds. Staff is working on rescheduling the movie.

Sun Valley Pool will have free swim days July 4 and July 15.
