Reno coat drive sorting coats today

RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- The donation period is over for the Big Reno Coat Drive, but organizers still need the community’s help.

Volunteers are needed to help pick up coats from drop-off locations around town and sort through the thousands of donated coats.

This is the fourteenth year the non-profit has put on the coat drive. Last year a record 5,200 winter jackets were donated. Organizers expect this year they will have more coats than last year. The gently-used coats go to the homeless and local families in need.

Last year more than 200 brand new coats were given to students at Title 1 schools. This year more than 400 students will receive coats with tags on them.

The big sorting event will take place Saturday, Dec. 8.
