Sports betting up as football season kicks off

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) Football is back and along with it comes sports betters. The Peppermill
says that NFL bets account for 50 to 60 percent of all bets placed there. When college football bets are added that number jumps to 80 percent.

"Thursday through Monday we're full just because there's a football game Thursday night, there's college Fridays and Saturdays and NFL Sunday and Monday so we're pretty much slammed," John Haines, the Peppermill's Sportsbook Director, says.

Haines says that even thought several other states have legalized sports betting, the Peppermill is still thriving.

"Maybe down in Vegas because they have the people from the east coast flying there but here we're more focused on our local guests," Haines says.

He says they've had a recent uptick of people using their mobile app. You can use it from anywhere in the state of Nevada to place bets.

"We've had it for a few years but more recently it's getting more popular because people like to stay home they can be placing bets in their underwear and watching football," he says.
