STORRS, Conn. (KOLO) UConn's Gabby Williams is one of 40 players in the country invited to 2017 USA Basketball Women's Under-23 National Team training camp.
A final 12 players will be chosen to represent the USA in the inaugural U23 Four Nations Tournament this summer in Tokyo, Japan.
Even if she were to make the team, Williams will not play for team USA this time around. She will instead join UConn on a foreign tour of Italy from Aug. 12-23.
Williams was named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-America Team this season, and earned second team All-American honors from the Associated Press. She was also named All-Conference first team, and the American Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Year.
The Sparks native, and former Reed High School All-American, averaged 14.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.7 steals per game as a junior.
The USA training camp runs July 31-Aug. 4 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
