SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA (KOLO)-- A South Lake Tahoe woman remained jailed Friday on a charge she seriously injured an 18-month-old special needs child.
Amber Nichole Maxwell, 38, was arrested May 21 on a charge of willful cruelty to a child causing great bodily injury, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department said.
Police went to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake on April 14 where medical staff found the child with a broken femur and bruises on the face and head. The child was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center for surgery and other care. An investigation revealed Maxwell, the girlfriend of the child’s father, was responsible for the injuries and police arrested her.
Her bail is $150,000.
