Silver State Sights: The Grand Theatre
If you’re a music fan in Reno, you’ve probably seen a show there.
“The acoustics are incredible,” said GSR VP of Marketing Christopher Abraham. “Bands from every genre tell us how good they sound here.”
Following its $5 million 2015 renovation, the
now gives 2,700 people a chance to watch concerts, boxing matches, Miss USA pageants, and plenty of other events. Abraham says there is something going on about 100 nights a year in the theatre.
The theatre goes back to 1978, when the then MGM Grand Reno was one of the world’s largest casinos. The stage still is the world’s largest, and there is plenty of room backstage with a unique element.
“The planes been here since 1978,” Abraham explained. It was one of the major props in the Hello Hollywood Hello show. It’s too big to move. Every once in a while we bring it out and use it for a special event or something of that nature.”
You'll find other relics backstage of the Hello Hollywood Hello show, as well as a private office that was once a dressing room for Frank Sinatra.
The renovation came thanks to the Meurelo group who purchased the property several years ago.
