The Truckee Fire in Silver Springs has damaged at least three buildings and a dozen cars, and there are reports of several people suffering smoke inhalation.

Dalton White and his father say they saw a plume of smoke and rushed over to help neighbors.

"I helped this old man with this lady to get out of the house and my dad ran back in and was looking for two dogs. I guess one dog got out and one dog he let go of and I wanted to go back in but he wouldn't let it and then he went back again to find the other dog but he couldn't find it at all," White says.

The fire is in the area of Esmeralda and Truckee.

Fire crews from Yerington, Storey County and Carson are all assisting.

Lyon County has opened a shelter at the Silver Springs Community / Senior Center at 2945 Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs.

White says he and his dad didn't pause for a moment to help their neighbors.

"I did it because I didn't want anyone to burn, their house or other items to get burned but it was kinda already to late to get their stuff out and everything," he says.
