Victim identified in Lazy 5 shooting

SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) - Update: The Washoe County Coroner has identified the man killed in Monday's shooting at Lazy 5 Regional Park in Sparks as Robert DeCoite, 20, of Sparks.

A shooting at Lazy 5 Park in Spanish Springs left one person dead.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the manner and cause of death.

Secret Witness is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect or suspects wanted in connection with the shooting.

Update: Washoe County officials say Lazy 5 Regional Park in Sparks will remain closed until the Sheriff's Office completes its investigation of a fatal shooting.

In addition to the park closure, the Washoe County Senior Services has cancelled senior meal service at the park today, December 3, 2019.

The County says it will reopen the park as soon as possible.

Original Story: Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam confirms that a shooting in Spanish Springs has left one man dead.

Sheriff Balaam says the shooting happened near the library at Lazy 5 Park around 3:30PM Monday, December 2, 2019.

Several people were still on the scene when deputies arrived. The deputies found a man who was pronounced dead on the scene.

There is no word yet on whether detectives have identified the shooter.

The north Sergeant speaking on behalf of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office says the shooter has not yet been identified and no one is in custody. 

The cause of death and identity of the victim will be confirmed by the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner.
