WASHINGTON, D.C. (KOLO) - Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-NV, has a plan to fight the U.S. Department of Energy's shipment of plutonium to Nevada.
Cortez Masto announced in a Tweet that she will put a hold on all DOE nominations until Secretary of Energy Rick Perry sets a date for the removal of plutonium for the state.
Nevada had filed a suit in federal court to prevent the shipments from the Savannah River facility in South Carolina, but a federal judge in Reno ruled against the state after it was revealed the DOE had already transported 1100 pounds of weapons grade plutonium to Nevada.
Nevada continues to fight the plutonium shipments in federal court, and Gov. Steve Sisolak has requested a meeting with President Trump to discuss the issue.
