DAYTON, Nev. (KOLO)-- The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports a second child abduction attempt in the Dayton area in two days.
The latest case happened January 18, 2019 about 5:15 p.m. in the Palmer Court area. Investigators say a man in a van spray-painted green, black and red approached a boy, told him to get into the van and threatened him if he did not get in. The boy instead ran to the area of Dayton High School.
The sheriff’s office says the driver was the sole person in the van and describes him as white and in his late 30s, and balding on the top of his head with brown hair and a goatee. He also had a 2-inch by 2-inch tattoo on the left side of his neck.
This follows an incident the day before in Dayton’s Sutro area, when a man in a van tried to lure a girl into his van as she was walking home.
The sheriff’s office asks anyone who recognizes the van or the person driving it to call 911 or 775-577-5023. People can also report tips to Secret Witness at 775-322-4900 or at www.secretwitness.com. People who give tips to Secret Witness can remain anonymous.
The sheriff’s office does not recommend confronting anyone.
The sheriff’s office also urges people to "to remain vigilant about their surroundings, especially when walking in your neighborhoods. Let someone know where you are going, and try to walk in pairs. Keep your doors, windows, and cars locked."
In a separate case, the sheriff’s office says it is no longer searching for an Isuzu Rodeo after a report of a person knocking and jiggling door knobs, saying that matter has been debunked.
