EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. (KOLO) - The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who went missing while swimming at South Lake Tahoe.

The Sheriff's Office got a call around 6:30PM Sunday, September 9, 2018 that 32-year-old Chaitanya Datla from Cameron Park was on a rental boat with family members when he jumped off to swim and disappeared under the water's surface. His family says he was not wearing a life jacket.

South Lake Tahoe Police initially responded along with The United States Coast Guard, but were unable to locate Datla. The area where he went missing has a depth of around 1,100 feet.

The search for the missing man resumed Monday morning. The Eldorado County Sheriff's Office Dive team, along with US Coast Guard, South Lake Tahoe PD, and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, searched the same area of the lake and did not locate Datla.

The investigation is being handled by South Lake Tahoe PD.
