RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -- Due to an outpouring of support, a major renovation is expected for local nonprofit.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern Nevada raised $100,000 at its recent Red Shoe gala, which the William N. Pennington offered to match in support.
All $200,000 will be used to renovate 12 bedrooms at the 32-year-old Ronald McDonald House.
The renovations will include updating plumbing, flooring, electrical, and furniture for all 12 bedrooms.
Construction of the project is set to begin spring of 2020. Executive Director Laurie Gorris says it will be difficult to juggle helping out families and dealing with construction, but they plan to do just that.
"We have twelve bedrooms, but we are rarely all those bedrooms filled at one time,” said Gorris. “We are going to do it in phases, whether it be floor by floor because we have two floors of rooms or whether it be two rooms at a time. We are going to go with our sense at the time, how many families we are serving."
The Ronald McDonald House Northern Nevada helps serve more than 800 families each year, so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little to no cost.
