SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO)-- A report of shots being fired drew the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to the area of the Mustang Exit of Interstate 80 east of Sparks Saturday afternoon, sheriff’s spokesman Bob Harmon said.

There were no reports of anyone hit or being shot at, Harmon said. Two men were taken into custody and it appears if there are criminal charges it will be for being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

The report of shots being fired came in around 2 p.m., Harmon said. As the sheriff’s office responded, a car with the two men pulled away from the area. As authorities tried to stop the men someone threw a gun out of the car, the gun was found by deputies, Harmon said.

The sheriff’s office HASTY team responded to help search for other evidence, he said.

The names of the men have not been released.
