RENO, NV (KOLO) - Temperatures are a littler cooler this week, but the heat is still on. Renown Health teamed up with the City of Reno to offer free swim sessions for kids at Traner and Idlewild pools this week.
It’s held at the height of summer to encourage healthy family activity. Dan Gleich the city’s Recreation Manager said the free swims couldn't have come at a better time. “We are very excited to have these pools available to kind of help people get out of the heat.”
He added, “Especially for it being free swim week they get to cool off and be in the water, even with it being 100 degrees.”
According to Gleich, the city gave away nearly 800 passes last year.
As the summer continues to heat up many are finding ways to keep cool.
Some people are taking strolls before and after the sun’s peak hours. Naimi Davis said, “From my experience, early in the morning, even sometimes in the evening.”
Dog lovers are steering clear from the sun too. Joan Giannecchini said, “We can go for a walk, lots of shade, and afterwards he can jump in the river, so the Truckee River makes it very, very appealing because then he can cool off.”
If it’s cooling off by the water or avoiding the sun, mom, Kealyn Wise said it best, “We are going to drink cold drinks and eat ice cream."
You can visit both pools for a swim pass.
