Reno among ten worst cities for air pollution

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The American Lung Association has issued its State of the Air 2017 report and the Reno - Carson City - Fernley area does not rate well.

The report lists the area as the 10th worst city for Short-Term Particle Pollution out of the 186 metropolitan areas in the survey. The Reno area ranked 36th for high ozone days and 60th for "annual particle pollution."

The air quality in the Reno - Carson City - Fernley area is impacted by summer wildfires in Western Nevada and California that often send clouds of ash into the area.

The air situation is far worse in California. Six of the worst 10 cities for Short-Term Particle Pollution are in the Golden State.
