Reno man to serve 20-60 years for attempted murder

RENO, NV (KOLO)-- A Reno man must serve at least 20 years in prison for trying to kill a woman in September 2018 and for attempted sexual assault.

Christian Anthony Rodriguez, 26, pleaded guilty in May to attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon and to attempted assault.

The Reno Police Department responded on Sept. 16, 2018, to a south Reno apartment and found a woman with stab wounds to her upper chest and dried blood over her neck, head and clothing. She had trouble breathing.

When she was treated at the hospital, the injuries were life-threatening as the stab to her chest caused a lung to collapse and other wounds pierced her spinal cord and damaged her carotid artery, the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office said.

After the woman recovered, she told police Rodriguez attacked her with a kitchen knife and forced her to stay in the apartment for more than five hours after the attack.

Reno detectives arrested Rodriguez a short time later at a Fernley convenience store.

A judge sentenced Rodriguez to three consecutive 20-year sentences.
