Judge denies reduced bail request for attempted murder suspect
A judge has denied an attorney's request for reduced bail for his client who is facing attempted murder charges.
Washoe District Judge Barry Breslow announced his decision late in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 following an unusual three hour hearing.
Police say 24-year-old Ivan Biondi tried to strangle a woman to death tih whom he had briefly been romantically involved.
The alleged incident happened on April 12, 2019 at the woman's home on Taylor Street.
Biondi was arrested eight days later on April 20.
Arguing his client was an accomplished young man with a clean record who had suffered a mental breakdown his attorney, Tom Viloira, requested his bail be reduced from $1 million to $100,000.
But Deputy District Attorney Kelly Kossow presented audio recordings showing Biondi claiming his victim was actually trying to kill him with poisoned lipstick and body cam video of an arrest that followed a screaming rant through a Reno neighborhood after his release on a lower bail.
The victim of the assault also took the stand saying she feared for her safety and that of others if Biondi was released again,
Citing concern for her safety and that of the community the judge said no to the bail reduction.
Biondi's trial is scheduled for August 2020.
