Memorial service scheduled for Reno journalist Dennis Myers

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - A memorial service for Dennis Myers will be Sunday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. McKinley Arts & Culture Center 925 Riverside Dr. in Reno .

Former KOLO 8 News Now reporter Myers suffered a fatal stroke at his home in Sparks on Aug. 26.

Myers was a long-time news editor for the Reno News and Review. His last article appeared in that weekly on August 22, 2019.

He also worked KTVN, The Sparks Tribune, and the Las Vegas Business Press to name just a few publications.

From 1987 to 1988, he took a break from journalism and worked for Secretary of State Frankie Sue Del Papa. He covered politics, city and county government, women’s issues, even the history of film in the Silver State.

His current and former colleagues say he is irreplaceable, with an institutional knowledge matched by no one.

He was called the “conscience of Nevada’s journalism community.”

At his request his organs were donated Monday afternoon at Renown Regional Medical Center.

Dennis Myers was 70 years old.
