The evening of June 6, was a life changing one for the Edwards family – when Shannon Edwards and his daughter Shaylie were hit while crossing a street in south Reno.

“Shaylie has a very long road ahead of her but she is doing well," said her mother Erica. "She's still in a comatose state. She is a lot more alert though. She is going to be transferred to rehab next week.”

While Shannon has recovered, Shaylie's mother stresses that "she is not ok" and the road to recovery will be a long one, as she is in the process of recovering from multiple broken bones and a brain injury.

“She’s a very special little girl. She makes our team whole,” Erica remarked. “To have her be more responsive and to be with us is helping bring our family back together. We are just looking forward to being together as one again.”

Friends and family gathered at renown on Tuesday for Shaylie’s 4th birthday, and while it’s not the way any family should have to spend such a special day, they remain grateful for the support they have received.

If you would like to help the Edwards family out, a

has been set up to help Shaylie.
