The Reno City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to proceed with a plan to turn the former CitiCenter Plaza bus station in downtown Reno to a non-gaming hotel and sports tourism center.

P3 Partners and Reno city staff have 120 days to work out arrangements for developing the old bus station at 40 E. 4th St.

In addition to building the hotel, they would put money into the Reno Bowling Stadium to make it a multi-use facility, as well as upgrading the Reno Events Center. Possible uses include indoor soccer, basketball and volleyball tournaments, and possibly an ice rink.

This plan finds other uses for the bowling stadium, which is empty for a good part of the year.

P3 reports it has up to $60 million to put into the project, and construction on the hotel could begin by the end of the year.
