SPARKS, NV (KOLO)-- A Reno Air Race pilot made an emergency landing on the Pyramid Highway Wednesday night, an Air Race spokeswoman says.
Andy Findlay is in Reno for the annual pylon racing seminar at the Reno-Stead Airport. Findlay won the gold in the sport class of the 2018 STIHL National Championship Air Races.
Findlay was on a photo mission when his Lancair Legacy Aircraft had electrical failure, according to a race statement. He rerouted to the airport in Stead when the malfunction got worse, so he landed safely on the Pyramid Highway. He was not hurt and there was no damage to the plane, which has been moved.
An Air Race spokeswoman says the pilot landed on the highway about ten miles from Pyramid Lake.
The 2019 event is set for September 11-15.
