RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office has released the name of a man killed in a hit-and-run at 6th Street and Wells Avenue.
66-year-old Richard Pratt of Reno was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries, according to the coroner's office.
Pratt was walking across the intersection in a crosswalk early Friday, November 30, 2018, when he was hit. Police reviewed surveillance video they believed shows the suspected driver leaving the scene, and announced they believed the car to be a yellow Chevrolet Monte Carlo, seen being driven south on Wells after the crash. About six hours after the crash, an employee at a glass shop called police to say a man had shown up wanting his windshield repaired, and that customer and the car matched descriptions broadcast by media.
Police responded to the shop and found the car, and arrested 26-year-old Cruz Ochoa for Hit and Run Causing Death, Hit and Run Failing to Render Aid, Passing a Vehicle Stopped at a Crosswalk and Driving Without a Driver's License.
Police say, "The Reno Police Department would like to once again thank the public for their assistance. This crime may have gone unsolved without the willingness of the aforementioned citizen to call and alert us to the defendant's presence at the business."
