STEAD, NV (KOLO) - A man who pleaded guilty to sexual assault has been sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison.
The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says 28-year-old Christopher Cagle entered his plea to two counts of assault. He will be eligible for parole after a minimum of 20 years has been served.
In October 2017, Reno Police responded to a report of a sexual assault in the Stead area. They met with a woman who told them she had been alone in her home with her children when she was attacked and sexually assaulted by a masked intruder. The attacker threatened to harm her and her children if she did not quiet the children, who were aware of the attacker’s presence and were crying and screaming in a nearby bedroom.
Police say Cagle, whom the victim knew, had entered the home knowing the children would be there. Once inside, he tied her up and assaulted her multiple times before leaving. She then untied herself with the help of one of her children and called for help.
At sentencing, Chief Deputy District Attorney Luke Prengaman argued Cagle’s commission of the crimes, with children in the home and aware of the attack on their mother, was an aggravating circumstance deserving of consecutive life sentences.
