Reno Police Department looking for recruits

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The City of Reno Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Recruit.

The department is looking for a "diverse pool of qualified applicants who have a unique blend of traits and characteristics to include empathy, effective communication, compassion, and the ability to relate to people on a personal level."

Upon selection, recruits will attend the Northern Nevada Law Enforcement Academy. Recruits attending the academy will be paid as City of Reno employees and receive a beginning wage of $50,832.91 per year and full time medical, dental and vision benefits after thirty days of employment. The department will issue the majority of the equipment needed while in the academy.

The minimum requirements for interested people to apply are:

• You must be a citizen of the United States by May 27th, 2016
• You must be at least 21 years of age by May 27th, 2016
• You must have a high school diploma or GED certificate by May 27th, 2016

The Reno Police Department is accepting applications through May 27, 2016. The testing will occur June 13th – June 17th, 2016. Questions concerning the application and testing process will be answered at any of several scheduled open houses at the Regional Public Safety Center at 5190 Spectrum Boulevard on the following dates: April 27th, May 3rd, May 5th, May 11th, and May 25th, 2016. Each event will run from 5pm – 8pm.

You're also invited to “Run with a Recruiter”: All attendees will be put through the physical portion of the test to practice. The next scheduled events are on May 7th and May 21st at the Reno High School track from 10am – Noon.
