Woman killed after being hit by fire truck identified

RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- UPDATE: The Washoe County Coroner's office has identified the woman killed in an accident with a Reno Fire Department ladder truck as Charlene McMaster, 63.

The cause of death is still pending, but McMaster was declared dead on the scene.

McMaster is believed to have been homeless.

ORIGINAL STORY: There was a fatal pedestrian accident Saturday morning at East Fourth Street and Valley Road involving a Reno Fire Department ladder truck, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The accident happened about 6:55 a.m.. and the pedestrian was a woman. The sheriff's office said the Washoe County Medical Examiner is confirming her identity.

Fourth Street was closed until 2:30 p.m. while the sheriff’s office investigated.

The city of Reno said it is cooperating with the sheriff's office investigation and tweeted this statement:

We at the City of Reno are devastated by the pedestrian fatality that happened this morning. Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by this tragedy, and we offer our condolences to our entire Truckee Meadows community.

The sheriff's office asks any witnesses who have not talked to investigators to call patrol at 775-328-3350.
