RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County School District is registering kindergartners for the 2018-2019 school year.
“We all look forward to welcoming our newest students to school in the fall,” said Kacey Edgington, WCSD kindergarten coordinator. “Our online registration system is ready, and we encourage our parents to use it to begin the registration process. Getting ready to attend kindergarten is an important part of assuring that our young students begin their academic careers in a positive way.”
Any child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2018 may enroll in kindergarten for the upcoming school year. After beginning the registration process online, parents may visit their childrens' schools with their students' original birth certificates, immunization records, and utility bills that the parents' or guardians' names and addresses as proof of residence to the zoned school.
Parents who are unsure about which school their children should attend can visit the District website to receive the names and addresses of their zoned schools. Parents who do not have access to a computer may use a computer at any WCSD school. The website also features step-by-step instructions in English and Spanish to help parents use the online kindergarten registration program.
Three WCSD elementary schools instituted multi-track year-round (MTYR) schedules during the 2017-18 school year due to overcrowding. Students at Alice Smith, Double Diamond, and Spanish Springs elementary schools observed the schedule, which is available here.

“The first year of school is a wonderful time in a student’s life, and we look forward to working with our parents to get the year off to a great start,” said Edgington. “Attending kindergarten is so important for students, and our staff is standing by to help if parents have questions or concerns. Our online registration system is so easy to use, so now is the time to register our kindergartners for the coming year.”
