Registrars Office stays busy the last day to register in person

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) The bell at the door and the phones on the desk--all were ringing at the Washoe County Registrar of Voters Tuesday, the last day to register to vote in person.

Benjamin Collins says he moved to Nevada recently and with kids now, it was time register.

“Now I am a father, I have three daughters. You know politics is much more of an interest to me for sure,” says Collins.

Other people were here to change their addresses, or get a sample ballot.

Many people called the office to re-confirm they were registered, when early voting starts, or how late the office would be open on the last night to register. The answer to the last question was 9:00 October 16, 2018.

To register to vote, you do need to have identification.

“You will need to have a government-issued photo identification and proof of residence,” says Deanne Spikula, Washoe County Registrar of Voters.

If that ID does not have an address on it, Spikula says you need a renter’s receipt, proof of car insurance, or utility bill.

Spikula says you can go to the Washoe County Registrar of Voters' website to take a look at your voter information to make sure you can vote.

You can make changes there, too, so you don't go in person to the office.

The deadline to register online is Thursday October 18, 2018.
