Dixie Fire 100% contained at 106 acres

RED ROCK ROAD, NV (KOLO)-- ,6:30 p.m.Friday update: The Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center reports the Dixie Fire is 100 percent contained at 106 acres.

,2:47 p.m.Friday update: The Dixie Fire north of Reno in the Red Rock Road area is now 80 percent contained and is 106 acres, the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District reported.

It is expected to be fully contained by Friday night.

9:43 p.m. update: The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District estimates the Dixie Fire burning in the Red Rock Road area is 80 acres.

No homes threatened and progress is being made. Crews will remain on the fire overnight.

Lightning started the fire, TMPFD reported.

The district responded to seven fires since 4 p.m., all likely started by lightning.

9:30 p.m. update: The Dixie Fire off of Red Rock Road has reached 75 acres, Sierra Front Inter-agency Dispatch Center reports.

It is burning in sagebrush and juniper, Sierra Front said. It was reported about 6:30 p.m.

Crews are on scene. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District reports ground crews were making good progress on the fire. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said it was ready to offer any assistance.

Original story: A fire in north Red Rock Road area north of Reno is 20 acres and no structures are threatened, the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District reported.

Crews are on scene of the fire in the area of Dry Valley Road and Dixie Lane. People are asked to avoid the area.
