RENO, NV (KOLO)-- Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful had a record-breaking turnout Saturday as 855 volunteers cleaned up the Truckee Meadows.
KTMB reported the volunteers worked at 31 sites around the community and picked up more than 93,800 pounds of trash and more than 42,400 pounds of invasive weeds and green waste.
That includes cleaning up illegally dumped items from open space areas.
They also spread mulch in parks and planted 30 trees and 500 flowers.
This was the largest community cleanup since the event started in 2006.
“Previously our largest cleanup had 22 sites; this year we had 31 sites," KTMB Executive Director Christi Cakiroglu said in a statement. “It is so exciting to see so many people come out to help make our community a more beautiful, safer and cleaner place to live.”
