Race state troopers while giving back to NV Donor Network

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Nevada Highway Patrol and Nevada Donor Network are teaming up on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. The two are hosting an event at Need 2 Speed in Reno Thursday night.

People can purchase a ticket to race state troopers without getting a ticket. The event will not only show appreciation for local law enforcement, but it will also raise awareness on becoming a registered organ, eye, and tissue donor.

Monica Myles with NV Donor Network said, “They really care about the community they serve beyond law enforcement and one of the things they really support is organ, eye, and tissue donation because it really has the possibility to impact all of us.”

According to Myles 61% of Nevadans are registered donors. She said, “It is great, but some states have 80% registered, so we still have a lot of work to do here in the state.”

Myles said there are 600 Nevadans waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. “There is a huge need nationwide, we are talking 113,000 people.”

The tickets are $25 each. Myles said $5 will go towards NV Donor Network. Part of the proceeds will help educate the public on becoming a registered donor.

The event is Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
