RENO, Nev. (KOLO)- The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County is having a grand opening event for the completion of the 4th Street/Prater Way Bus RAPID Transit Project. It will also debut a new RAPID service, the RTC RAPID Lincoln Line. The event will be held Friday, December 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. The celebration will be held at RTC’s new RAPID transit stations near the intersection of Prater Way and El Rancho Drive.
RTC is launching the new RAPID Lincoln Line service on the corridor with four all-electric buses. To celebrate the launch of the RAPID Lincoln Line Service, the RTC will offer free rides along this route through Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
For event safety, Prater Way will be closed to through traffic from El Rancho Drive to 22nd Street from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Traffic will be detoured to Victorian Avenue. Access to area businesses and residences will be maintained during the closure.
Event parking will be available at the Rail City parking lot, at 2121 Victorian Avenue, and at the marked event parking lot on Prater Way between 21st and 22nd Streets, directly across the street from Asia Market.
The RTC began construction on the 4th Street/Prater Way Corridor in January 2017. The $58 million investment was funded with federal and local funds, and will connect downtown Reno to downtown Sparks.
The project was designed to transform the corridor, adding wider sidewalks, bike lanes, landscaping, and energy-efficient LED lighting. The RTC also moved utilities underground, removing poles and barriers for people with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
