RENO, NV (KOLO) Several newly-announced construction projects will impact traffic in several areas of town this summer.

Cones are out on El Rancho Dr. In Sparks as construction began on Wednesday.

The Regional Transportation Commission announced Wednesday that the Virginia Street/Wells Avenue intersection will close for about three weeks for construction work as part of the Virginia Street project, but Virginia will temporarily return to two-way traffic between Plumb Lane and Regency Way during that time.

Also, starting Monday, Moran and Taylor streets will be closed to through traffic between Virginia and Center Streets for about 2 months. Businesses will remain open during construction.

Starting July 11, California Avenue will close completely for about a month, as work continues on the project near Reno High. RTC says the goal is to have it back open before school begins in August.

In Sparks, expect lane closures on El Rancho drive between G Street and Oddie Boulevard as crews work to improve pavement conditions, add sidewalks, and make pedestrian safety enhancements. That work is expected to last three months.
