Suspect in Wedekind Road shooting arrested in New Mexico
A suspect in a Jan. 20 shooting that injured a bystander in northeast Reno was arrested Friday in New Mexico, the Reno Police Department said.
The U.S. Marshals Office arrested Carl Collins, 31.
Police said Collins got into an argument with someone on Jan. 20 near Wedekind Road and Sutro Street. The other person got into a vehicle and drove away and Collins began shooting at him, police said.
The bullets did not hit the intended target but instead penetrated the wall of an apartment and hit an unsuspecting teenage girl in her home. The injuries were not life-threatening and she was taken for treatment.
Police said Collins fled Reno.
Reno Police Department say SWAT officers entered the apartment, but the suspect was not inside.
Investigators believed the man may have been in the apartment based on surveillance video at the Silver Terrace complex on Wedekind Road.
Police have not released any additional information about the shooting suspect, other than he is either a Black or Hispanic man.
The Reno Police Department is currently investigating a potential shooting.
On Monday, January 20, 2020 around 4:40 p.m. officers responded to the area of Wedekind Rd. and Sutro St. for a report of shots fired.
Officers located an unrelated victim who was shot from stray gunfire.
The victim was transported to the hospital and is reported to be stable.
Through investigating officers determined that the suspect was in the general area, and deployed SWAT.
Authorities say SWAT is currently undergoing a tactical operation to find the suspect. There is no threat to the public at this time.
Police ask that you avoid Wedekind Rd. and Sutro St. until the operation is complete.
