Reno Fire Department to inspect Ace Motor Lodge

RENO, NV (KOLO) - The Reno Fire Department says it received a complaint about the Ace Motor Lodge and will be inspecting the property for compliance on Friday, August 16, 2019.

KOLO 8 News Now has been following the story and residents say the conditions at this motel are unlivable.

"I pay my money and I'm supposed to live comfortable instead I have to worry about knocking bugs off of me and then looking at them crawl across my food my canned goods, that's just nasty," Clifton Climmons says.

The City of Reno issued a citation to the owner of the motel on July 24, but the owner has appealed it and a hearing is now pending.

The Reno Fire Department inspects all hotels and motels every three years unless there is a complaint.

"Ace Motor Lodge at 222 North Sierra Street was last inspected March of 2018 and they did have some violations however they did correct all the violations and that was the last time we were there and we are inspecting them again this week based on a complaint," Fire Marshal Trey Palmer says.

Palmer says property owners have 30 days to correct any violations that are issued. If they are not fixed, the citation process begins.

"The last thing we want to do is put people out on the street because we realize that today's housing market it's hard to find affordable living. At the same time we want a person to be safe in that spot that they're sleeping," Palmer says.

We tried asking the owner to give his side and detail the improvements, but he refused.

For those who may be victim to poor living conditions, the Reno Fire Department says to call 334-INFO for help. You will remain anonymous.
