REMSA discusses National Child Passenger Safety Week

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - This week is National Child Passenger Safety week. According to REMSA three out of four car seats are installed wrong.

Francisco Ceballos with REMSA said last year it checked 393 car seats in Washoe County and only 19 were installed correctly.

REMSA’S doors are always open to check your car seats, but they use this week to educate the public about the importance of proper fittings.

Ceballos said there are some common misconceptions. "Sometimes parents just want to get the seat in there and they think ok I have them in the seat safe.”

Ceballos added, “But sometimes its little things, that they might have too much coverage.”

He continued, “By what I mean by that when you're installing it, you can install it two ways, there's little hooks in the bottom called latch, and so parents think that more is better, but in this situation they kind of cancel it out.”

REMSA will be at Legends checking car seats on Saturday, September 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 pm. You can always call REMSA to make an appointment if you cannot make the event.
