RENO, Nev. (KOLO)- Quest Counseling is a substance abuse and treatment agency. They have a transitional home for teenage boys facing substance abuse and mental health issues.
"At Quest House we teach them how to live again," said Executive Director Jolene Dalluhn, "We teach them a lot of independent skills."
The boys range from 14-17 years old. They cook their own meals, attend school and go to therapy. And while that may seem like ordinary things, it can be a struggle for someone facing substance abuse or mental health issues.
"There are a lot of reasons why adolescents end up using substances and end up in this home," said Dalluhn, "Some of the families have a family history of addiction, or they may have had a traumatic experience in their lives and do not know how to cope."
The teenagers living in the house also have access to psychiatric care.
Typically, the clients stay at Quest House for 90 days. With the change of environment, increased productivity and treatment, Dalluhn said they see a lot of change in that short period of time.
"I think they just need to know that other people believe in them and will give them a chance at being at a home like this rather than putting them at a boot camp program or being incarcerated," said Dalluhn.
So far, Quest House has helped countless teenagers break free from the grasp of addiction. And they want to do the same for teenage girls. They received a grant from the Substance Abuse and Treatment Agency and are ready to make it happen.
"We will be serving young girls and they will have the same experience as the boys," said Dalluh," They will go to school, have chores and go to treatment."
But they need help looking for a home to rent.
"The community has been so giving in this home," said Dalluhn, "And just a very kind-hearted person rented this home to us for our boys, and we are hoping to find the same kind-hearted person to give us a home to rent for our girls."
Quest House is looking to open a house for girls by fall 2018. If you know someone who is willing to have them rent a house you can contact them. Their information is below:
