RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- The Washoe County School District School Naming Committee on Wednesday night recommended the new high to be built at the Wildcreek Golf Course be named Procter Hug High School.
Meanwhile, they picked three options for the career and technical school being planned for the current Hug High School: Debbie Smith was first with 24 points, Feemster was second with 19 points and Michael Landsberry was third with 12 points.
Smith was a Nevada legislator representing Sparks. Feemster is for the Feemster family and the work they have done in the community. That includes Dolores Feemster, a long-time faculty member at Hug High School, and son, Darryl Feemster, a long-time community activist. Landsberry was a Sparks Middle School teacher and coach killed by a student in a school shooting.
The school district is currently scheduled to vote Nov. 12 to finalize the names.
The new school is supposed to open in August 2022. The career and technical school is scheduled to open in 2023.
