Police investigate damage to historical gravestones

The Reno Police Department is investigating after at least four historical gravestones were vandalized over the weekend.
It happened at the Hillside Cemetery on Nevada Street. Members of the Hillside Cemetery Preservation Foundation found the damaged headstones the morning of Sunday, November 5, 2017 and suspect the vandalism happened sometime overnight.
The gravestones are said to be from the 1800s. Police say it does not appear they were specifically targeted.
The estimated damage is $15,000 to $20,000. An expert on historical monuments from Virginia City is expected to assess the total damage.
