RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect in the theft of a vehicle Saturday with the help of a patrol dog, the sheriff’s office said Sunday.

Anthony Garcia, 24, of Sun Valley, was booked into the Washoe County jail on several charges, including vehicle theft, two counts of burglary and several counts of possession of a credit card or debit card without the owner’s consent.

The sheriff’s office got a report at about 6 a.m. on Saturday of a vehicle being stolen while it was warming up in a driveway.

A short time later a deputy on patrol saw the vehicle going north on Wells Avenue near Interstate 80. Garcia sped away in the vehicle when the deputy tried to stop him, the sheriff’s office said.

The deputy found the vehicle crashed into another vehicle at Wells Avenue and Sadlier Way and other peace officers came to assist, including one with a police dog. The dog tracked Garcia to bushes in a nearby apartment complex and deputies arrested him.

The vehicle was returned to its owner.
