Pilot program offers drivers new option to avoid visiting DMV

CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - People often expect to see long lines when they show up at the DMV. But now, there's one more option available to help consumers avoid stepping foot in a DMV branch altogether.

"We have been trying to set up DMV services for AAA branches in Nevada for a long time now and this is the debut today in Carson City," says Mike Blasky, spokesperson for AAA Nevada.

The new service lets drivers in Nevada and California take care of just about all their vehicle-related DMV business at the AAA branch at 2901 S. Carson Street in Carson City.

"This is just one more added convenience," says Alex Smith, Public Information Officer for the DMV. "If you need to do a vehicle registration, you need to surrender your plates, you need to order a handicap placard, you can now do that at this Carson City location and we are hopefully going to be expanding those services to all AAA locations by 2018."

You don't have to be an AAA member to use the service and there are no extra fees.

"Anything we can do to make people's lives easier is something we're excited to offer," says Blasky.
