RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- A bicyclist was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Friday night after being struck by a vehicle in southeast Reno, the Reno Police Department said Saturday.

The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. in the area of Longley Lane and Aircenter Center. Both the 57-year-old bicyclist, a Reno resident, and the vehicle were going north when the vehicle hit the bicyclist, police said.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor.
Traffic was restricted in the area until about 3:30 a.m.

“The Reno Police Department would like to remind drivers and bicyclists that we all need to do our part to keep our roadways safe,” police said in a statement. “Bicyclists need to make sure that they obey the rules of the road, have a headlamp illuminated during the hours of darkness, wear highly reflective clothing, and a helmet is highly recommended. Drivers also need to give bicyclists at least 3 feet of room when passing, and change lanes if there is an open lane on multi-lane roads.”
